If you like to listen, come to Olivet.
If you like to participate, come to Olivet.
If you like to sing in the shower, you'll love singing with the Olivet Choir.

I'm John and my aim, as the organist/choir director, is to draw out everyone’s musical gifts for the glory of God. I search for music that is meaningful and within the performance ability of the singers to create a blend that folks will like to hear and that choir members will enjoy performing. We work hard to take our many different voices and become what I like to call "one voice in two, three or four part harmony". We also enjoy the selections of professional and semi-professional soloists (some of whom are members of our congregation), and we encourage children and youth who play musical instruments to participate.
We are fortunate to have three choirs at Olivet, as well as a fledgling Men’s Chorus that debuted on Father’s Day of 2008.
The Olivet Choir is an eclectic group of volunteers who enjoy coming together and having fun while producing music to enhance the Sunday morning worship service in praise to God.
The Gospel Choir sings spirituals and gospel music from the African American tradition. Directed by Deanna Alexander, the group sings on special occasions and in conjunction with other gospel groups in the community.
The Sunbeams is a choir for our youngest members. From pre-school through age 10, our Sunbeams sing in worship approximately four times a year, lifting the spirits of all.
John became Olivet's Organist/Choir Director in February 1982. He studied classical piano for 10 years and has studied Organ and Choir Directing with instructors at Wagner College. A piano teacher and former owner of Fiore Music in Annadale, John has served as Organist/Choir Director of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and the Reformed Church of Huguenot Park. He was the Musical Director for many productions of the Olivet Players, the Blessed Sacrament Parish Players, the Staten Island Children’s Theatre, and countless other churches and elementary schools on Staten Island. An accountant by profession, John has been the Chief Financial Officer for Community Agency for Senior Citizens/Senior Housing Resource Corporation since 1990.
